TARGET AUDIENCE: Physicians of El Paso, PA’s, NP’s, Hospital Staff, EMS
CURRENT PRACTICE: Inconsistent knowledge about trauma patient care between specialties.
BEST PRACTICE: Using evidenced based practice to care for trauma patients, continued trauma education to specialties groups improves patient outcomes.
GAP: Application of specialty trauma services varies between physician groups and between Centura Health facilities.
OBJECTIVES:
- Identify areas of improvement when caring for a patient with traumatic injuries
- Explain at least one change to current practice that can lead to improved patient care
- Identify life saving measures in the ER for penetrating thoracic trauma
- Identify indications for operative intervention in penetrating thoracoabdominal trauma
- Identify new emergency room interventions and procedures for penetrating abdominopelvic trauma
- Define adverse childhood experiences and their impact on patients health
- Assess patients experience violence from a healthcare perspective
- Improve screening, identification and care for the patients experiencing violence
- Identify risk factors for violence in medical history, presentation and assessment
- Discuss initial management and evaluation of the burn patient
- Describe special burn considerations
