TARGET AUDIENCE:  Physicians of El Paso, PA’s, NP’s, Hospital Staff, EMS

CURRENT PRACTICE:  Inconsistent knowledge about trauma patient care between specialties.

BEST PRACTICE:  Using evidenced based practice to care for trauma patients, continued trauma education to specialties                                        groups improves patient outcomes.

GAP:  Application of specialty trauma services varies between physician groups and between Centura Health facilities.

 

OBJECTIVES: 

  1. Identify areas of improvement when caring for a patient with traumatic injuries
  2. Explain at least one change to current practice that can lead to improved patient care
  3. Identify life saving measures in the ER for penetrating thoracic trauma
  4. Identify indications for operative intervention in penetrating thoracoabdominal trauma
  5. Identify new emergency room interventions and procedures for penetrating abdominopelvic trauma
  6. Define adverse childhood experiences and their impact on patients health
  7. Assess patients experience violence from a healthcare perspective
  8. Improve screening, identification and care for the patients experiencing violence
  9. Identify risk factors for violence in medical history, presentation and assessment
  10. Discuss initial management and evaluation of the burn patient
  11. Describe special burn considerations
